The Wage of Crow Hill(Taylor)
The Maple Leaf (Trad.)
|
There are many 'Crow Hills' in and around Yorkshire. This particular one can be found near Ponden, Hawarth, West Yorkshire and its name intrigued me. The Maple Leaf is one of my 'staple' reels, a simple but lovely
tune perfect for harmonising with.

Aur for Buda (Taylor) Hanter-dro/An-dro/Du-hont ar ar Manez (Trad. Breton) The New Fiddle(Paul Archer)
|
Air for Buda Emerged on return from Budapest in 1999 and was developed by the addition of Neil's lyrics. It seems to flow naturally into the Breton Tunes and 'The New Fiddle'.
North Eastern instrument maker, Paul Archer is one of the most influential musicians in my life and he not only built the fiddle but wrote the tunes as well.

A couple of Cheery jigs. The brewers Wife was written as a wedding present on the occasion of Ken and Sara-Jo's wedding in Sowerby Bridge 2001, Ken being a brewer hence the title. The second tune was learnt from
playing of another of the great pipers Ronan Browne.

The Happy Union(Taylor)
|
My piping career started on the Northumbrian Smallpipes back in 1983 after badgering a school music teacher for a set of Irish pipes. As you can tell here by my style of Smallpiping, these tunes are a fusion of Irish
piping techniques and Northumbrian influence!
