Liz Doherty is from Buncrana, Co. Donegal. She was first introduced to the fiddle by her mother's uncle, Joe Grant, and later taught by Dinny McLaughlin. Liz studied music at University College, Cork and spent a number of years in Cape Breton Island researching her PhD on the fiddle music tradition there. She now lectures in traditional music at the Music Department, UCC. Liz was a founder member of Cork based band Nomos, and now plays with the Bumblebees and Fiddlesticks.
