The eldest of a celebrated musical family which includes accordeonist Sharon Shannon and Mary Shannon of "The Bumblebees". Garry Shannon's music has been very influential on the Irish Trad scene in general and Flute players in particular.

Himself a senior all-Ireland winner in '88, he is a teacher and many of the current crop of youngsters - soloists and groups - bear his unmistakable stamp.

He is currently on the board Irish National Concert Hall.
